The San Joaquin County Early Education Stipend Program (EESP)/AB212 is designed to increase the retention and academic preparedness of early childhood educators working in child development program centers and family childcare homes. Administered by the San Joaquin County Office of Education, participants are awarded stipends in recognition of completion of professional growth trainings and advancement toward higher education degrees. The program supports development and leadership skills of the early childhood education title 5 provider workforce, in order to maintain high quality programs.
2018 Workshop Dates and Times
Interested applicants applying for an Early Education Stipend must attend one of the mandatory workshops listed below. Unless otherwise stated, all workshops are held at the San Joaquin County Office of Education’s Wentworth Education Center at 2707 Transworld Drive in Stockton in the Greenwood 3 conference room. When registering for the workshop, you will be asked to provide a Workforce Registry Number. To obtain a Workforce Registry number, go to https://www.careregistry.org. Minimum Eligibility Requirements
Applicants who meet the minimum eligibility requirements may apply for either a Professional Development or Degree track stipend.
- • Employed within San Joaquin County with the same employer for a minimum of 6 months between January 1, 2018 and December 31, 2018.
- • Employed by a California Department of Education-Early Education and Support Division (CDE-EESD), center-based contractor or working in a program that participates in a *Family Child Care Home Network serving children funded through an CDE-EESD contract. *(A letter from your Network Coordinator must be submitted along with your completed application).
- • Worked directly with at least three children (not including your own), teaching or providing care within the classroom or child care setting, and were included in the daily ratio for a minimum of 15 hours per week for a minimum of 6 months.
- • Have a current, valid Child Development Permit or receipt of application for permit, dated on or before December 31, 2018, at an Associate level or higher.
Professional Development Track
ECE professionals who already possess a BA degree, or higher and complete 21 unduplicated professional growth hours (PGH) during the period of January 1, 2018 - December 31, 2018 are eligible for a stipend award amount of up to $500. Application must include copies of Professional Growth Certificates that include: participant name, title of workshop/training, number of PGHs earned, date of workshop, and signature of trainer/facilitator. Please note that online courses must be EESD approved.
For program year 2018-2019, the following Professional Growth activities/hours will not be accepted:
- • Keenan & Associates online trainings
- • CPR/First Aid training
- • Mandated Reporter training
- • Online modules previously completed for a stipend within the last two years
- • Volunteering/working at a community agency event
Degree Track
ECE professionals who are enrolled in a post-secondary accredited institution taking courses toward an AA or BA degree in Early Childhood Education/Child Development or closely related field and complete six or more degree-appropriate semester units with a grade “C” or better earned during the period of January 1, 2018 - December 31, 2018 are eligible for a stipend award amount of up to $1,125. Application must include official sealed transcript(s) documenting completed units.
Application Deadline
Application and supporting documents must be completed, signed, and postmarked by February 28, 2019. Incomplete applications and/or envelopes postmarked after February 28, 2019 will not be accepted and the application will be denied.
