California Preschool Instructional Network
A bridge between preschool and kindergarten, Transitional Kindergarten (TK) prepares the youngest preschool students for educational success. The California Preschool Instructional Network (CPIN) provides professional development opportunities, resources and other assistance for educators and schools engaged in TK programs.
Created by the Kindergarten Readiness Act of 2010, Transitional Kindergarten is the first year of a two-year kindergarten program. Children who turn 5 years old between September 2 and December 2 are eligible for Transitional Kindergarten. School districts are required to offer TK programs as an option for these students.
