Free Meals For San Joaquin County Students

Free Meal Programs for Children Extended through May 26, 2021

Schools play a significant role in fighting food insecurity and providing families with healthy, delicious meals through various free or reduced-price meal eligibility programs.

When school campuses in San Joaquin County closed to transition to distance learning to help slow the spread of COVID-19, the San Joaquin County Office of Education (SJCOE) and county school districts began providing free “grab-and-go” meals to children 18 years of age and under at curbside and drive-thru sites throughout the county.

On Aug. 31, 2020, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) offered waivers that allow schools that have started the 2020-2021 school year to extend the Seamless Summer Option (SSO) and Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) through May 26, 2021. These waivers enable districts to serve meals at no cost, permit meals to be serviced outside of typical group settings and mealtimes, waive meal pattern requirements as necessary, and allow parents and guardians to pick up meals for their children.

In participating San Joaquin County school districts, children and families can pick up meals at any location, regardless if the child attends school at that site or in that school district. Please visit each school district’s website for more information specific to locations, times, and other details. Or you may download one of the apps below to help you find, save, and share nearby California meal sites by searching on a variety of criteria.
