The SELPA Career Vocational Center is a resource for special education staff, which assists students in the San Joaquin County SELPA with the transition from an educational setting to the world of independent living and valued work. The SELPA Career Vocational Center consists of an educational specialist and three full-time job developers/job coaches, who assess career vocational curriculum, resources, services, agencies, and the WorkAbility I program. SELPA Career Vocational Center provides consultation to school site staff in areas of vocational screening, career exploration, life skills curriculum, and community-based instruction. Information on local resources such as public transportation, the Department of Rehabilitation, Social Security Administration, WorkNet, and Valley Mountain Regional Center are also available. Job training and coaching to assist with the transition to independent employment is provided to students, when appropriate, through the Workability I program.
