42nd Annual Academic Decathlon Competition

San Joaquin County high school students to compete in high-energy academic competition

What:  San Joaquin County high school students will compete in the 42nd Annual San Joaquin County Academic Decathlon Championship. The 2023 theme is The American Revolution. The Super Quiz event and awards ceremony are open to the public on Feb. 4 in Lathrop. The competition started on Jan. 18 with online essays and objective testing.

 

When/Where:  Saturday, Feb. 4; Lathrop High School; Large Gym; 647 Spartan Way, Lathrop

Speech and Interviews (Closed event)

1:30 p.m. - Super Quiz (Open to the public)

3 p.m. (Approximately) - Awards Ceremony (Open to the public)

 

Who:  Fourteen San Joaquin County high schools: Escalon, Kimball, Lathrop, Manteca, McNair, Middle College, Tracy, Merrill F. West, Millennium, Mountain House, Stagg, Weston Ranch, and Sierra high schools, as well as Stockton Early College Academy.

 

Awards:  Winning team is invited to attend the State Academic Decathlon Championship held in Santa Clara on March 24-26, with all fees paid by the San Joaquin County Office of Education (SJCOE) Educational Foundation. Other awards:

•          $5,000 renewable tuition scholarships to the University of the Pacific

•          Cash awards provided by the SJCOE Educational Foundation

•          $1,000 award to top overall scorer provided by the Self-Help Federal Credit Union and the SJCOE Educational Foundation in honor of Walt Rathhaus

•          $500 scholarships for top speech and interview donated by Tina Talamantes

•          Medals and plaques

•          Dave Sorgent Championship Award
