The chief executive officer of the San Joaquin County Office of Education (SJCOE) is the San Joaquin County Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Troy A. Brown. An elected position, the county superintendent is a constitutional officer who also acts as a liaison for local school districts and the state.
The SJCOE is a service-centered agency that supports school districts, students, educators, families, and the broader community with the overarching goal of ensuring that every student in the county has an opportunity to receive a high-quality education and a chance to tell their story.
San Joaquin County is home to approximately 153,000 public-school students. The SJCOE works in collaboration with the county's 14 independent school districts and charter schools as well as public service agencies, businesses, and institutions of higher education to meet the educational needs of our county's children so that they can succeed and prosper.
As one of California's 58 county offices of education, the SJCOE supports districts by performing tasks that can be done more economically at the county level, from fiscal oversight to facilitating professional development opportunities for educators.
The SJCOE also offers unique programs and services for families and children that support academic achievement and social-emotional wellness from birth through preschool, kindergarten, high school, and beyond.
