Science and Special Projects
The Office of Science and Special Projects at the SJCOE implements California Science Academic Standards and the California Science Framework. Community colleges, four-year colleges and universities in the region work with the office of Science and Special Projects to promote science as a core subject for all grade levels. The office also serves as liaison between the California Department of Education and other national/regional science-oriented agencies. Various grant programs the department has participated in provide funds for teacher professional development in science from the National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation and California Department of Education. The programs are designed to promote teacher leadership and teachers receive leadership training in addition to their science training. The Office of Science and Special Projects is also the regional home of one of the sites of a statewide, successful, ongoing professional development project for science which is the Delta Sierra Science Subject Matter Project (http://csmp.ucop.edu/csp and http://www.edserv.sjcoe.net/dssp) and is a partnership with the Dept. of Physics at University of the Pacific in Stockton.
