Exercise Across California

In an effort to motivate children to be active and healthy, San Joaquin County Office of Education partnered with Kaiser Permanente to launch a fitness program called Exercise Across California featuring 13 of California’s landmarks.

Exercise Across California’s goal is for students in these schools to improve their levels of physical fitness by putting in extra exercise time that goes above and beyond their physical education requirements. Using pedometers, students will track their progress and exercise 2,126 miles across the state. Along the way they will visit landmarks highlighting California’s history, tying in with the California state standards for social science. Exercise Across California integrates a collaborative effort with the UC Davis Cooperative Extension and their Power Play! nutritional program.

The program targets fourth-graders in 10 schools throughout the county, which will receive monetary support to purchase physical education equipment. Lathrop, French Camp, Lincoln, Dent, Glenwood, Montezuma, Nightingale, Alexander Hamilton, Needham and Southwest Park Elementary Schools will be participating in this exciting new program.
