Close Reading Across Content Areas In Grades 3-8

This session focuses on a variety of ways teachers can use close reading in their classrooms.
Teachers will experience how to scaffold for independent and collaborative close reads as well as
how to write text dependent and text independent questions for comprehension. Mentor texts will
feature selections from ELA, H/SS & Science. Teachers will leave with strategies they can
immediately implement which are appropriate for all students. This session exemplifies CCSS
ELA/Literacy with integrated ELD using the ELA/ELD Framework.

  1. Teachers will be introduced to a variety of effective close reading strategies designed for students
developing their literacy. This session will feature a week-long model of an interactive read aloud
unit complete with high leverage literacy tasks, student work, and a lesson planning template. There
will be opportunities to apply new learning throughout the day. All lessons exemplify CCSS
ELA/Literacy with integrated ELD using ideas advocated in the ELA/ELD Framework.Teachers will be introduced to a variety of effective close reading strategies designed for studentsdeveloping their literacy.
